One thing I’ve noticed over the years is that the older I get, the more intentional I’ve become about networking. I don’t have the same interest I once did in walking into a room with hundreds of people, collecting business cards, and hoping one conversation turns into something meaningful.
I’d rather spend an evening meeting ten people I genuinely connect with.
That’s one of the reasons I created SOUP NYC, the Society of Urban Professionals.
After more than twenty years in business, I wanted to build the kind of networking experience I would actually want to attend. A room filled with entrepreneurs, professionals, business owners, and community leaders who came with the intention of building real relationships. That’s what Next Level Networking is all about.
It’s a structured speed networking event designed to help you meet people quickly, but thoughtfully.
Over the course of the evening, you’ll have the opportunity to meet around ten different people. The conversations are short, but they’re long enough to move beyond, “So, what do you do?”
I always encourage people to ask better questions. What are you working toward? What challenges are you trying to solve? How can we help each other?
Those conversations are usually far more memorable than exchanging business cards.
The goal has never been to walk away with as many contacts as possible. It’s to leave with a few meaningful connections that have the potential to grow into something much bigger over time.
That’s how I’ve built much of my own business, and it’s exactly the kind of environment I wanted SOUP to create.
