I was looking through a few photos recently and came across pictures from the ladies brunch I hosted at the Virtuoso Realty Group Harlem office in December, centered on the book Ask and It Is Given.
It made me smile because it was such an amazing afternoon.
I invited a small group of women I knew, and we spent the afternoon eating, talking, laughing, and discussing the parts of the book that stood out to us. The food was amazing, which deserves to be mentioned because we definitely enjoyed every bit of it.
The book gave us somewhere to begin, but the conversation went wherever it needed to go.
We talked about the ideas we agreed with, the ones we had questions about, and how some of the themes showed up in our own lives. One person would share something, and it would remind someone else of an experience or lead us into an entirely different conversation.
That is usually what happens when you bring the right women together. You may start with a book, but before long, you are talking about life, relationships, business, personal goals, and everything in between.
Because these were women I have already built relationships with, the afternoon felt easy. Nobody had to introduce herself or make polite small talk. We could be honest, laugh at ourselves, challenge each other a little, and move on to the next topic without making it too serious.
I also enjoyed hearing how differently we each responded to the same book. We did not all take away the same message, and that made the conversation better. Everyone brought her own experiences to the table.
Looking back at the photos reminded me that I need to make more time for afternoons like that.
Good food, good friends, a book that gives everyone something to talk about, and nowhere else we needed to be for a few hours.
That December brunch was a good one.
xoxo,
