What I’d Tell My Younger Self

July 29 2026

One thing I’d do differently if I could go back is simple. I’d get comfortable being uncomfortable much sooner.

Years ago, I spent a lot of time focusing on the work itself but very little time talking about it. I wasn’t recording videos. I wasn’t sharing what I was learning. I wasn’t documenting the day to day experience of building a business.

Today, that’s completely different.

Yes, you’ll see the polished content. The videos, the articles, the professional photos. But if you follow along, you’ll also see the meetings, the site visits, the days that don’t go exactly as planned, and everything in between.

I’ve realized that people connect with the person before they connect with the business.

For a long time, I thought I had to present myself as what I believed a commercial real estate broker was supposed to look like.

The longer I’ve been in business, the less interested I’ve become in fitting that mold. I’d rather people know me for how I think, how I work, and what I value.

I’ve also stopped believing that every opportunity is meant for me. The right clients usually aren’t the ones you have to convince. They’re the people who naturally connect with the way you communicate, the way you solve problems, and the way you do business.

Looking back, I wish I had trusted that sooner.

There was a period in my career when I was constantly moving. Traveling, working, trying to keep up with everything that was in front of me. I spent so much time focused on the next task that I rarely stopped to think about where I was actually trying to go.

If I could have one conversation with that version of myself, I’d tell her to slow down just enough to see the bigger picture.

Keep learning. Keep building. Share the journey along the way. The business will evolve, but so will you.

Today, I’m much more comfortable showing up as myself. I’m not trying to fit someone else’s idea of what an entrepreneur or commercial real estate broker should be.

I’m building my business in a way that reflects who I am.

Looking back, I think that’s one of the best decisions I’ve made.

xoxo,

Cyn
