Success changes as you grow. If you had asked me twenty years ago, I probably would have measured it by transactions, milestones, or how quickly I could build a business. Today, I think about it differently.
These days, success looks a lot like having choices.
Last year, I took a thirty day vacation. It was the longest time I’d stepped away from work in a very long time. I played tennis. I played golf. I had slow mornings, long breakfasts, and afternoons where there wasn’t anywhere I had to be.
What surprised me wasn’t that I enjoyed the vacation. It was how much I enjoyed having control over my time.
That experience made me think differently about what I’m actually building. I still love commercial real estate. I still enjoy making deals, helping clients, and growing my business. None of that has changed.
What has changed is how I define success.
Today, I’m much more interested in building a business that creates freedom than one that simply keeps me busy.
For me, that means becoming more efficient. It means building better systems, making smarter decisions, and spending less time on the things that don’t require my attention so I can spend more time on the things that do.
I’m not there yet. There are still goals I want to accomplish and a lot more I want to build. But I have a much clearer picture of what I’m working toward.
Success isn’t about avoiding work. It’s about creating a life where I have the freedom to decide how I spend my time.
To me, that’s one of the best returns any investment can provide.
